The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)
OSERS develops and implements policies and legislation that have a direct impact on individuals with disabilities and their families and plays a critical role in monitoring these laws and regulations. National Council on Disability (NCD)
NCD is an independent Federal agency that makes recommendations to the President on disability policies, programs, practices, and procedures, and empowers individuals with disabilities to become self-sufficient and integrated members of society. The web site provides contact information for filing disability-related complaints, State protection and advocacy agencies, social security complaints and inquiries, Federal grant programs, independent living centers, State mental health agencies, Federal agencies with information on disability issues, and other disability information resources.
National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY)
NICHCY provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues, with a special focus on children and youth with disabilities (birth to age 22). The web site provides access to free publications, State and national resources, information about upcoming events and conferences, and answers to frequently asked questions.
The Arc of the United States (The Arc)
The Arc is the national organization of and for people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families and is devoted to promoting and improving supports and services for these individuals. The web site provides access to facts, contacts, and news and advocacy updates related to people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.
American Association on Mental Retardation (AAMR)
AAMR advocates for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities by promoting progressive policies, sound research, and effective practices, and by aiding families and other caregivers in providing community support. The web site provides information about recent news in the developmental disabilities community, the latest AAMR initiatives, legislative issues, upcoming seminars and events, public policy issues, membership, and journals and other publications.
